Saint James the Apostle School

This morning our third grade is
participating in the 9am Mass with all of the third graders in the parish. Some of the children, accompanied by their
parents, are responsible for the readings, the petitions and bringing up the
gifts. After Mass the children and their
families will proceed to Doherty Hall for refreshments. This is the first of
our parish wide Family Masses. Our
thanks to Dr. George Bovino for all of his hard work in making sure this event
is wonderful for our third grade families.
Our children
in grades 6-8 participated in a Presidential Debate this past week. The students, under the direction of Mrs.
Gina Redendo and Mrs. Rosemarie Perrin, broke into four groups early in the
week. Each group selected a leader whose
job it was to keep the group on task. A
secretary was also chosen to take notes and a speaker was selected whose job it
was to represent the opinions of the group.
All of the students had to prepare a variety of questions for the
opposing team which were written on index cards. I served as the commentator and it was my job
to pose the questions to each side representing our two presidential
candidates. Each student had one minute
to respond to the questions being asked of them. After the debate the children were given a
series of questions to answer concerning what they might have learned that they
did not know before, what were the most informative topics and issues they
might want to see addressed in the future.
Our thanks to Mr. Vincent Perrin, a retired teacher, who has been
working closely with our teachers and the children. Mr. Perrin has a true passion for history and
has been generously donating his time to work in the area of curriculum development
and directly with the children.
Many thanks to
all those who supported our annual Card Party.
This event is one in which we spend a great deal of time enjoying each
other’s company while winning great prizes.
The support our school gets from the Card Party is appreciated by
everyone as we continue to do our best to stay strong in these difficult times.
