Meet
Spike!
We
are proud and excited to introduce to you, our classroom pet – Spike! Spike is a Chinese Water Dragon and was
donated to our third grade class by Mr. Sean Dalrymple and his son Sean. We are thrilled to have adopted Spike and are
working very hard to take good care of him.
We pray for his health and safety everyday during morning prayer and we
have done research to learn how to best care for him.
Spike
is approximately 12 inches long from his head to the end of his tail. However, research has told us that he can
grow up to 3 feet! (We may need to get a
bigger tank!). We know that Spike is
a boy because he has orange shading under his armpits. His color changes from dark green to light
green and we believe he is more active at night (when he is alone with his
crickets) than when he has a large audience. His diet can include crickets, mealworms,
waxworms, locusts, small feeder fish and even roaches! (No donations please!). His habitat must be kept warm, moist and
clean. Spike has well developed legs and
controls his body temperature by moving in and out of warm and cool
places. He has, in a short amount of
time, brought so much joy to our classroom!
We
ask everyone in the parish to pray for Spike, and for us, as we care for him. J
Sincerely,
Mrs. Crawford and the Third Grade
Special thanks to Deanna Young, an 8th grader and volunteer at Animal Kingdom, who helps us with our “out of tank” observations and the care and upkeep of Spike and his habitat. J
